Our Technology

Community BioRefineries (CBR) has perfected a proprietary, zero-waste biorefining platform that transforms locally grown agricultural feedstocks into a diversified portfolio of high-value, market-ready products.

Perspective.  The official USDA definition of a “biorefinery” is: “a facility (including equipment and processes) that converts renewable biomass or an intermediate ingredient or feedstock of renewable biomass into any one or more, or a combination, of biofuels, renewable chemicals, or biobased products, and may produce electricity.”

The American public has been conditioned to think of a biorefinery as a place where ethanol is produced.  Ethanol plants make one dedicated product (ethanol) and its solid waste has been designated as another (DDGs – see below).  Liquid waste gets dumped into local lakes and streams which kills off all life in the waterway (which results in the attention of the EPA).

CBR fully embodies the USDA’s comprehensive definition of a biorefinery and goes far beyond the partial processing of conventional ethanol plants.  CBR achieves 100% molecule utilization across the entire feedstock – not just the easily fermentable sugars – delivering strong financial returns through multiple high-growth revenue streams while addressing critical demands in nutrition, renewable energy, and sustainability.

Unlike antiquated ethanol plants

Ethanol plants which are designed primarily to ferment only the C6 sugars (like those from corn starch), yet waste the vast majority of the plant material – including stover, fiber, proteins, oils, and other valuable components.  CBR’s process avoids all these shortcomings and represents a true next-generation biorefinery as defined by the USDA.  At the end of the day, ethanol production applies technology over 5000 years old…

What CBR Sets us Apart?

  • Complete Feedstock Valorization— Every part of the plant (roots, tops, leaves, stover, etc.) is processed into premium products rather than discarded or burned.
  • Diversified Outputs— High-margin nutraceuticals and proteins (majority of revenue), advanced bio-alcohols (especially bio-butanol), bioplastics, clean/green energy, and more.
  • Zero-Waste Design— Cold mechanical processing with full water recycling, near-zero emissions, and true circularity.

What CBR Delivers

CBR’s integrated system processes virtually any plant-based feedstock — including sugar beets and their tops/leaves, corn stover, non-GMO hybrid corn, dairy cheese waste, sorghum, switchgrass, industrial hemp, soy, barley, and much more – sourced locally within a 25–50-mile radius. The result is complete utilization of the entire feedstock with zero waste, producing 20+ high-margin co-products in a single, efficient operation.

Key Product Portfolio (All verified as technically feasible and commercially viable):

  • Premium Plant Protein Isolates (90%+ purity, nutraceutical-grade for human consumption) – High bio-availability proteins for food, dietary supplements, and clinical nutrition* applications;
  • Nutraceuticals and Phytochemicals– Including chlorogenic acid, resistant starch (with benefits for gut health and blood sugar management), and other bioactive compounds* commanding premium pricing in the health and wellness markets;

* Potential bio-medical applications are not discussed in this document

  • ABE Bio-Alcohols– Focused on bio-butanol as the primary output (a superior, drop-in compatible biofuel with gasoline-like properties, pipeline transportability, high energy density, and applications in engines, fuel cells, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel). Also produced are high-value bio-acetone and ethanol;
  • Bio-Hydrogenand clean energy outputs;
  • High-Oleic Oils, bioplastics (PLA & PHA based) – biodegradable in industrial compost within 6–12 months), fluffy cellulose, lignin derivatives, cosmeceuticals, and nutrient-rich materials for aquaculture/hydroponics;
  • Clean, Resilient Electricityvia CBR CORE modular hubs (1–5 MW+ per facility), powered by the bio-alcohols, hydrogen, and syngas for community, critical infrastructure, and AI/data center applications.

Revenue Diversification:

Approximately 70% from high-margin nutraceuticals, proteins, and value-added products, with the balance from renewable fuels and energy.  This “product portfolio” de-risks the investment while capturing explosive growth across multiple sectors.

Validated Technology Platform

CBR’s proprietary technologies were developed over decades in collaboration with the USDA and five major universities. To confirm viability for commercialization, CBR engaged an independent third-party process engineering firm (retained by a large California county) for a comprehensive technology assessment.  The independent review concluded that the integrated platform 1) works as described, 2) produces all claimed high-value products at expected yields and quality, and 3) is scalable to commercial levels with strong potential for nationwide deployment.

This independent third-party validation, combined with detailed economic modeling using USDA-aligned ASPEN Plus feasibility software (an industry-standard process simulation tool), provides accredited investors with strong confidence in the technical feasibility, operational performance, and commercial scalability of the CBR platform.

Commercial Scale & Market Opportunity

Each standard CBR facility processes 110–140 tons* per day of local feedstock/biomass and is designed as a flexible, modular, and decentralized solution ideally suited for rural America.

* Tonnage represents feedstock/biomass sugar content required to create 1 million gallons of ABE.

Projected Outputs (at 1M gallons ABE/year scale example):

  • ~2,740 gallons/day total ABE (30% bio-acetone, 60% bio-butanol, 10% ethanol).
  • 600+ direct rural jobs (plus up to 1,000 indirect jobs).
  • Energy self-sufficient facility with surplus clean electricity exportable.
  • Near-zero emissions and 95%+ overall efficiency.
  • Remaining process water is purified and recycled.

Strong Economics: USDA ASPEN modeling projects 15–25% average annual IRR, driven by diversified high-margin revenues and low input costs from local sourcing and zero-waste design.  The platform aligns with powerful market tailwinds in plant-based proteins, low-carbon biofuels, and distributed clean energy.

CBR represents a compelling, de-risked opportunity in the next-generation biorefinery space – delivering verified, scalable production of in-demand products with outstanding growth potential.  Our technology turns agricultural abundance into food security, energy independence, rural economic revival, and environmental stewardship – all while generating attractive, long-term returns for investors.
